Finally Scotland

For his good friend Roger

(David Munyon)

I was nineteen and ready on the shores of love

With a needing heart and the need to run

I was nineteen and I felt like seventy nine and fog was heavy

I'd seen her once with a glancing eye

Her beauty could melt pure gold

Now I'm sailing from only god knows where

And want to be going home

Finally Scotland and loves arms

Finally Scotland and my farm

Finally Scotland and her kiss

Finally Scotland and her bliss

She was more than lovely and a good dancer too

With heavens light in her beautiful shoes

She was eighteen and standing in her hair like fire

On a stormy stormy night

I missed my chance to dance with her

Fear had taken hold

Now I sleep alone on my starbird sight

And her memory won't let me go

Finally Scotland and loves arms

Finally Scotland and my farm

Finally Scotland and her kiss

Finally Scotland and her bliss

Now I don't now what brings us these lives we live

With these memories and these could have beens

I'm old now and worry I may forget her name, or something

Maybe there's love in heaven to find

Maybe live just takes sometimes

Maybe I broke her heart once before

Maybe she's just gettin' even

Finally Scotland and loves arms

Finally Scotland and my farm

Finally Scotland and her kiss

Finally Scotland and her bliss
