Pretty Blue

Appeared on "Meanwhile Back in Japan" and "Pretty Blue"

David Munyon / S.P. Standley / Matt Rollings

Like the wind on a cool September evening
Your touch has caused my heart to pause again
Like the rush of a seldom thought of memory
There you are I thought I had forgotten you
In this night I want you like I never did
Broken hearts complaining of the years
How I want to hold you in my arms again
It is so true I never did stop loving you

Pretty Blue, you told me you would never leave
So sad all these lonely years
Pretty Blue our love was really something free
Your eyes were simply oh so Pretty Blue

Like the rain so sudden on a summer day
These tears have caused my face to burn again
Like the hush just before the lighting comes
Here I am lost in our same love I guess
Is it right that sadness have the final word
These eyes searching through the years
How I need to sleep with you this very night
Pretty Blue I never did stop loving you

Pretty Blue, you told me you would never leave
So sad all these lonely years
Pretty Blue our love was really something free
Your eyes were simply oh so Pretty Blue

I wrote the lyrics to this song in 15 minutes, after I prayed one afternoon in Nashville. I asked Jehovah GOD if he would please help me to write a "number one"song so I could help care for my family. I called Matt Rollings that minute and I read the lyrics over the phone to him, and then I got in my station wagon and drove like Batman to his house, and he played the music, spontaneously. In one hour we had the song. It was in 1988. Sharon Jane Peacock-Standley had given me the title "Pretty Blue", she said during a phone call one afternoon a year or so before, and she said her Daddy Truitt Peacock, a well loved good man from Hartford, Alabama, had always said she had "eyes that are so pretty blue".

I threw in my spiritual two cents worth, and tried to exchange it... for a love song between Bhagavan Krishna and his main love Shiva, or Krishna and his love relationship.

It is pretty much, just a love song for lovers. I love all of you very much. Thank you.
